Machine comparison – Cutting performances of Exact PipeCut 220E and 220 Pro Series

Introduction

This review compares the blade life and cutting performance of the Exact PipeCut 220E and 220PS 2.0 using a TCT 140 blade on standardized steel pipes. The evaluation included cutting times, degradation rate, failure mode, and cost per cut.

The 220PS 2.0 delivers significantly better performance, demonstrating roughly 3 times longer blade lifetime, more stable cutting times, and lower operational cost.

Methodology

  • Machines tested: Exact PipeCut 220E vs Exact PipeCut 220 Pro Series 2.0.
  • Blade: TCT 140.
  • Machine speed settings: (220PS 2.0: highest speed, lower position for the depth adjustment), (220E: highest speed, depth adjustment is, by default, the lower position on this model).
  • Pipe reference: EN10216‑2 / P235GH TC1 steel.
  • Dimensions: Ø168.3 mm | 4.5 mm wall thickness.

Results

On the upper chart, we can see that cutting with the 220PS 2.0 with a TCT 140 is much more efficient for the blade lifetime which is saved by 3 times.

On the lower chart, the degradation rate shows the blade will last longer when it is used with the 220PS 2.0.

The average cost per cut with the 220PS 2.0 is 1.26€ and 4.34€ with the 220E.

Recommendations

  • Machine selection:
    • If you are planning to do repetitive steel pipe cutting in this pipe dimensions range (e.g. 168×4.5 mm), you should consider the 220PS 2.0.
    • It provides optimal cost per cut and consistent blade longevity.
    • You can do several cuts back-to-back.

Conclusion

The test clearly shows that the Exact PipeCut 220 Pro Series 2.0 significantly surpasses the 220E in terms of blade life, cutting performance and operating costs. The 220E displays a smaller number of cuts, a high degradation rate and higher costs per cut.

However, for occasional or light-duty pipe cutting, the 220E remains a practical and economical option.

If you are planning to use the machine frequently, the 220 Pro Series 2.0 is the recommended solution for reliable and cost-efficient pipe cutting operations.

In another test, we will compare again both same machines but with the Cermet 140 blade.
